Wildlife Photos from Around the World

A Cruise From Puerto Williams in Chile across to the Falklands, South Georgia and the Tristan Da Cunha Islands. Seabird headquarters!! Onboard the Silversea expedition ship “Silver Cloud” – we set sail in windy conditions from Puerto Williams heading for The Falklands, where we visited New Island, West Point and the capital Stanley. The first two islands were absolutely beautiful and the wildlife clearly thought so too. Black Browed Albatross and Macaroni Penguins and even a stray Rockhopper Penguin had found a sheltered spot to raise chicks or just chill out. Striated Caracaras flew overhead and perched in arrogant fashion showing no fear of all the red coated people passing by. Upland Geese, Kelp Geese and Steamer Ducks searching the small landing beach or grazing in the wild grassland.

Off New Island, a solitary sailing boat owned by the couple who live there as their means of getting to the main island for provisions. Tea, coffee and cakes were served to all visitors. A beautiful sunny day gave the impression of an idyllic life on this island but the Falklands are known for some very harsh weather, so I think life here is for very hardy folk!!

Finally Stanley, the capital of the Falklands. This was our third visit here and we noticed some changes with more development. It was very windy so we opted for a walk along the edge of the harbour. Even the ducks and geese found it too windy as many of them just sat on the grassy verge.
