2023 started with a birding trip to this beautiful country. We had visited several times before but thought it would be a good idea to try an organised tour with an expert birding guide, rather than just rely on our own limited expertise. Our guide was Vince from Birding Africa who was not only very skillful at finding and identifying the birds but was also the only driver along some very challenging roads. The group consisted of 7 men plus me and included some very dedicated birders who were all happy to share their knowledge.

I had decided to take my new camera and lens kit, which gave me endless problems especially as I lost the spot focus point and couldn’t get the camera to respond. Google told me that others had a similar problem but nobody had a solution that worked. I am still waiting for a response from Canon as to why this should happen with a brand new kit. Strangely enough when I took the lens off the camera to travel home, the spot focus seemed to return so maybe there was a loose connection.

Anyway, below are a selection of photos I managed to take despite the frustration. The tour visited the beautiful Drakensberg area, St Lucia and the Kruger to name but a few. Accommodation was excellent and food plentiful and very good. I will look out and post some of the photos taken on previous trips to South Africa so watch this space.
